I would recommend WordPress as enhanced by Divi. This way, you have control over your website, make the site grow as you grow, and monthly fees will be very low because you'll only have to pay for hosting something like $5 per month. Plus, a lot of independent contractors who can help you are already very familiar with WordPress so you'll have a much easier time getting help and/or setting things up. WordPress powers something like 40% of the entire internet, which is incredible. I remember when [More]

Here at Working Solutions CDFI, we are ramping up for a website refresh in the new year and are weighing our options regarding what platform to use. We are currently using Squarespace 7.0 and are considering a switch to 7.1, but we want to explore other options as well. Does anyone have a a different website platform that you use and recommend? Please feel free to reply on this thread, send me a message on CDFI Connect, or email me at clara@workingsolutions.org. Thanks in advance for any input! [More]

Thank you for your interest in the course.  It has reached waiting list status.  However, often a handful of students do not officially register, thus opening up for those in the wait list.  Also, I can petition the Registrar to expand enrollment.  Feel free to reach out to me directly if you have any questions - james_carras@harvard.edu. Hi Diane. A large number of our Canadian clients use Sage 50 and 100 and very satisfied. In the US, we've seen more of an uptake from Sage, MIP and more recently Great Plains. They should be compatible with your loan servicing software as they are with ours, The Exceptional Assistant. From : Communities>>Open Forum
Hi Ken I've been in the nonprofit sector for 30 years and often counseled nonprofits - including economic development organizations - on how to structure their finance departments. In most small to medium size nonprofits (annual budgets up to $5M), finance departments consist of a full-time director of finance and administration OR a hands on CFO and maybe a PT bookkeeper if there is a high enough volume. They typically wear a lot of hats and manage all accounting, human resources, facilities, information [More]

I am looking at how best to structure and a finance dept for a small cdfi. Right now a part-time cfo fulfills the accounting and reporting, budgeting, and compliance functions in the organization. We are curious if other organizations use other models to get this work done and if the finance function performs other functions within the organization.  Appreciate your input  Thanks ------------------------------ Ken Gruber CFO Vital Healthcare Capital New York NY (212) 586-2821 x7 ------------- [More]

RE: Board Compensation

Hi Micah.  Great question.  Our 3 community leaders who are elected to the Board by our co-op communities are provided travel and meeting stipends.  We do daily stipends of $200 for travel and meeting days, including remote meetings of the Board or Board Committee.  We do not provide stipends to other appointees though we do reimburse for travel.  No one is getting rich from it but it helps off set if someone has to take a morning off from work, or a day or two.  Hope all is well with you.  Paul [More]

Initial Observations on FY '21 CDFI Fund Program Awards

Fri, 2021-12-10 12:21
From : Communities>>Open Forum
Dear Colleagues - We have pored over the results and have concluded that the awards were heavily skewed to mature CDFIs that were able to show consistently increasing deployment throughout the pandemic. Even at that, the maximum award sizes were much smaller than in previous years, while minimum award sizes were larger. Except for a few exceptions, very small and new CDFIs that would typically get $125,000-$250,000 in capital were not awarded. Only two awards for $125,000 were made. The logical conclusion [More]

Cassandra, I concur that ULI and NeighborWorks America could be good resources. One more organization whose training I would add for consideration is Novogradac. It has developed numerous on-demand webinars from its in-person training as well as now offering a certificate program. I would recommend looking at NeighborWorks America's training opportunities. https://www.neighborworks.org/Training-Services/Training-Professional-Development  While online now, there have traditionally been in-person as well as virtual training and certifications in a variety of affordable housing topics -- neighborhood revitalization, development, community engagement, financing, property and asset management, resident services, homeownership, leadership development, etc.  Registration is now [More]
